Back in the day when I dealt with and also worked in Auto Insurance the words Chain Reaction crash were something that I knew would involve lots of money as well as injuries and in one case death. This morning minding my own business on my way to work, traffic is moving along just fine. I hit the bridge and all of a sudden with no warning the car in front of me stops, I just knew I was going to hit them but I stood on my brakes and by the grace of God I stopped without hitting anyone. There was a truck behind me, they laid on their brakes as well and thankfully didn’t hit me. Then I inched forward. I heard a crash behind me. Apparently with in a few minutes there was yet another crash. Turns out it was an 11 vehicle pile up. Only one person was taken away by ambulance. This stalled my commute a little but I still managed to arrive with plenty of time. I wanted to stop and help but when your on a bridge, there is no shoulder and chances are pretty good that if I did stop either my car or me would have been injured. So I feel I made the right choice. I tried to call 9-1-1 but my in car Bluetooth system fought with me, so I didn’t get to make the call. I figured they would probably get pelted with calls. A lady I worked with told me that her husband was in one of the crashes. He is okay but sounds like their car is toast. There were a lot of upset people but everyone that I saw managed to keep their cool, of course it was only minutes old and they were all probably in shock. Wait until the morning I am sure you will have more than one case of neck or back pain. Shock and adrenaline block the pain but eventually when everything returns to calm that is when you start to feel it. I am very pleased that I had the brake fluid changed last week.
In other news I bit for Office 2013. I looked at it before when I used to install at my last job and I really wasn’t a fan. However, my mind has changed. There are still things that I am not pleased with like the fact that there are 3 yucky color schemes – white, light gray and dark gray. They suck. You also can no longer view multiple months in a calendar, just one month at a time and the appointments that used to list out for you in 2010 well they modified that list to only display appointments for the next 7 days. I got the software through work for a mere $9.95 which is a steal considering the full retail price of Office. I put it on my laptop as a test and fought for hours in trying to get my e-mail account configured. That worked and I got to play with Outlook, so I decided to make the plunge head on and I upgraded my desktop at home about an hour ago. I confirmed that it works and now I am uninstalling Office 2010. Two installs of Office on a machine is a recipe for disaster in my opinion. Plus think of all of the free space you will get back, just makes sense to uninstall it. Life is about moving forward and not about going back. While there are features that I miss, overall I am pleased with it and think that it will help me.
My whole take on encryption services and Ed Snowden yesterday caused me to look and see if there was something else available besides Zix Mail. There in fact are several. I found one service called sendinc.com They offer a lower cost service and you can even get a free account and not pay a dime if you so chose. They scale back what is available to you in a free account as one would expect. I opted for the free account to try it and I really liked it. I think it’s simpler than Zix but the issue that I had was I wasn’t able to email a file with a message. That to me is huge. So I am still going with Zix, even though their plug in seems to cause Outlook at home to crash. My laptop is fine, not sure why the different behavior.
I got to watch TV last night, not all of the shows but some of them. My jaw dropped when Axl (The Middle) brought home his friend from college. I totally see what Frankie (Axl’s mom) saw. I plan on finding out his real name and doing some searching. Speaking of searching in other news I received a confirmation e-mail from Google that Blogger will maintain it’s original policy with regards to porn. So as long as you follow the rules you will have nothing to worry about. Which is good news for a lot of people. In my case it won’t affect me.
Finally the Chipotle Chicken Burritos were really good, but I was thankful that I had a mint cookie to eat afterwards. Just a little bit of fire. Tonight will be Pot Pie or Soup, haven’t quite decided yet. I had my massage and as usual it wasn’t long enough. Well I need to make my evening rounds and get on the road again. Talk with you all again soon.
