Finally made it to Friday and I am happy about it. Welcome in!
Not much going on here. Trick or Treating started here last night. I saw a lot of kids in costumes at dusk but once darkness fell I saw nothing but a lot of headlights. One girl really wanted to ring my door bell, it was dusk. Mora was watching her while we were sitting on the couch. The girls parents managed to change her mind and she was only half way up the driveway. It’s still pretty light here at 5p which is when they can start asking for candy but you have to have a porch light on at minimum. I’m sitting in the dark and honestly everyone around me is doing the same thing. I’ve got nothing against trick or treating I just don’t participate ever since some little kid almost let out all of the cats years ago and followed me into the house when I turned my back at the door and said I need to get more candy. Thankfully none of the cats escaped. I know Rudy & Mora pretty well and they wouldn’t leave here, they have it too good but still I don’t want to take any chances. Chasing a cat in the dark isn’t my idea of fun.
Heard an interesting story yesterday. Apparently AI is now being used in some camera systems to detect guns. Once a detection is made it sends alerts out. A high school in I think Texas has the system implemented and when the alerts go out, the police are contacted by the system as well.
Now picture football practice after school. A kid hanging out on a picnic table near by decides to have a snack and watch practice. He’s eating Doritos. The system detects a chip as a gun. Those alerts fired and moments later 8 cops showed up, tackled this kid to the ground and handcuffed him and his friends that were around. The cops start asking where the gun is and the kid says there is no gun I just had chips, Doritos. Once they realize it was a false positive they uncuffed him. I don’t think (but am not sure) that he even got an apology. Now that kid won’t hang out after school or eat chips on campus ever again. That poor kid and his friends probably have a negative opinion over Law Enforcement and I’m sure they have some dreams about it. I can see being detained in handcuffs as quite traumatic, especially if your tackled to the ground.
Sounds like someone has some fine tuning to do on that system. The news was talking about the camera system and said that it’s smart enough to know the difference between a maintenance worker holding a drill and a person with a gun. I thought yeah but eat some Doritos around it and watch out. The system is being marketed to schools, banks and other businesses. Hopefully, there aren’t too many false positives and perhaps it can help prevent the next tragedy before it unfolds.
I had a Chicken Pot Pie for supper last night. I didn’t think I could finish it all but I made it disappear like it was nothing. I was full afterwards and satisfied. I think I will pick up another one for next week. 9 minutes of cooking time, then I can carefully dive in.
Spend lots of cuddle time with Mora last night and a little bit of time with Rudy. She likes to nag me around 5:30p thinking I will give in early for treats but they don’t happen until closer to 6p. She really turns in to quite the ass and is more than annoying. To the point where I want to smack her. She knows exactly what she is doing and won’t stop until you give in. I make her hold out but other times she tries my patience so hard that I just give in. She knows I’m a sucker and she is in control. Her Brother knows it too. I think they plot together on how to make me do what they want.
As per usual my work tasks are done and I am sitting on idle just waiting for something to happen or someone to need me. The surest way to make that happen is to head up and get comfy in a chair or bed, start watching TV and get a little sleepy. Then presto like magic the phone goes nuts and maybe not on the first email but for sure by the third it is time to get up and go back to it. Occasionally, I can get away with an hour of no interruptions but that is super rare.
Hope it’s a good day for everyone! Happy Halloween.
