I really enjoy this show, that is to say the US Version. I have worked so many places where you want the top brass or even your own boss to walk a day in your shoes to know how things are. This provides a great opportunity for executives to see how their companies are run and the motivation, dedication and effort of their employees. Also if they are lacking and if so to find out why.
There is a marathon on TLC I believe, my TiVo is taking care of recording it for me. It is funny at times and I always enjoy the end where the brass reward employees. It almost drives me to tears. I mean I want to cry but just don’t let myself go.
The last place I worked had a system in place where coworkers could nominate other coworkers for an outstanding job. At the very least you would get an award and usually a target gift card. There was a lunch every quarter and then nominations for employee of the quarter. I made the nomination for one of the quarters, which was nice. However, I wasn’t a winner. Still I was well taken care of. Putting systems like that in place make employees feel good about themselves and the work they do. Plus it’s a great motivator to always put your best food forward.
Most every time you turned around there was an award for something and once a year we would throw a huge party for the entire company. The executives would pick the employee of the year. You would win a two week trip to any place you and four quests wanted to go. For you this was in addition to your normal vacation. If you took people from work, they would have to use their vacation. Then imagine being surrounded by food all the time. Yes, it was a great atmosphere to work in and a culture that bred some really good things. Unfortunately, every place has their fair share of bad apples and my last boss was one of them. He just didn’t get what kind of commitment I made and the things I did for the company.
I am thankful to have had that experience and to see that by watching this show that others are enjoying some of the same benefits I enjoyed. I just can’t wait to get back to work to give my all to another company and just hope they see how much I shine.
So it’s been a day full of sleep and we have to get up at a decent hour tomorrow (today) for Easter. Were headed to some friends house for hot ham, yuk! Still it will be a free meal and I am thankful for that and the fact I will be with my partner!
If you haven’t watched the show, give it a try. I think you will become hooked. Plus there is some really good music at the end, it’s always the same theme but I rather enjoy it. An added plus you will understand what other people have to go through in order to do their jobs, which will give you a greater appreciation for when you next shop at your local store, sandwich shop, restaurant, etc. Some people have to do things that you would never have imagined and environments that are more difficult than you thought. If there is one piece of advice I can give you is when you buy any new type of clothing wash it first before you wear it. I learned that after working for a clothing manufacturer.
