Nothing like a little drama to end the day. I was sitting in the living room writing away. I saw an Ambulance with it’s lights on head down the street. That always makes me with I listened full time to the scanner to be in the know. This is one call I for sure wanted to know about because about 30 minutes it got much more exciting. 4 Police Units paraded down the street, no lights but they weren’t driving slow. About 10 minutes later 2 EMS SUV’s showed up. I had the scanner on to know the additional EMS people were coming but had no idea what the nature of the call was or why the additional EMS was needed. Then 10 minutes later the show was over and everyone left. The call was a ways down the street out of my line of sight. After everyone left I listened a little while longer nothing. Then 5 minutes after this all ended both of those EMS SUV’s came back, no lights but it was as if they forgot something. It was a quick in and out. My neighborhood was about due for an EMS call. We average at least 1 to 2 calls per year. There have been years where it’s been heavier. It’s nice to know what is going on around me. I listen all day long when I work at home and am at the computer. Once I leave I may turn the scanner upstairs on and listen for a bit while I eat but more often than not I just walk away. I’ve got company upstairs in the way of the cats to keep me company. That’s kind of what the scanner does for me when I am in the basement.
I was able to finish out my day as I had planned yesterday, upstairs. The cats were a bit of a challenge but they mostly didn’t bother me until I put the computer away and started writing. That is when they seem to need and want their attention. How convenient. We have all damn day long and they pick the one time when I want to zone out and go to a fantasy world to just forget about reality for a while.
I felt guilty not giving them much attention. Morea as you might guess by her name is quite the attention hog. She can’t get enough. If she isn’t feeling well she has to have even more. I still don’t know her well enough to pick up on when she isn’t feeling well but yesterday was one of those times. She threw up twice. I paid attention to her then. She was fine after that. She wanted to play and she knew cat nip time was around the corner. That’s when her and Rudy start getting excited and dancing around here. There is for sure pep in their step. I wrapped things up and started to wind down. I went to brush my teeth and that’s when they know it’s coming. As soon as I am done cat nip time I passed out a very small amount. The night prior I put out a little too much. They just eat it up like it’s candy. Then they sit there dazed for a bit. Then they want to play a little bit. They keep themselves occupied while I have a chance to not only finish up with my teeth but watch some porn. When they wind down they wander in and we just wait for my sleeping medicine to kick in. Morea is usually at the end of the bed, sleeping. Rudy is at my feet in between my legs resting. I watch TV and it doesn’t seem to bother them at all. 30 minutes to 2 hours later and I am ready for bed. Rudy gets on the floor and waits until I am in bed. Then he joins us and that’s usually when they start fighting. Morea moves to the pillow on the cedar chest and Rudy takes the bed. Sometimes they both wind up leaving.
My good deed to reward them one night with a little cat nip has turned out to bite me in the ass and it’s now a habit they expect each and every night. I have only skipped once, they weren’t happy about it but I want to have more skip nights so they don’t become expectant that this will be an every night thing. A little cat nip now and then is fine but it’s not something that I really want to give them everyday. I also dislike the fact that when I go to buy it they market it like its weed for cats. I’ve heard that for years and that alone is enough to make me not want to buy it. Weed and catnip are two different things. I just have a real hang up about illegal (I know weed is legal in some places) drugs.
A wet and much cooler morning here. We have rain pretty much hanging around all day long and I hate the gloomy days. I also hear the Cicada’s at night and I know winter is around the corner. The news mentioned that by the end of August the sunsets will all start to happen by 7:30p. Now it stays light until 8 to 8:30p. I like days filled with light. However, that’s the beauty of living in a place where you get to see all 4 seasons no matter how brief or long they might be. Winter and Summer are very easy to distinguish. Spring and Fall they seem to last a very short time and then it’s either full on Summer or Full on Winter. It’s been getting worse like that for the past 10 or so years. I remember growing up I got the true experience of all 4 seasons. It was really great.
With the weather being gloomy I am really not much in a working mood today. I just want to be lazy, go back to bed and call the day done. I could use this time to my advantage to get started on my dreaded report at work but that’s never a fun task. Plus I don’t have all of the pieces I need yet to complete it, still waiting for some data to come my way. I like to assemble it and then publish to get it off my plate. However, I’m in no hurry and if I can get away with being lazy today then I’m going to. One meeting today that is all that is on the books, just before lunch. Then I am home free. The rest of the week looks very similar today. It’s one of those times where you might as well enjoy the lull while it lasts. I will be on-call again next week and not looking forward to that. It’s nice to be able to see something come in and know that you don’t have to worry about it, the on-call person will take care of it. That is until you are the on-call person! There is also another project looming and pretty soon I will be super busy. Then a couple months of a lull and some average work days. Then the end of the year and bam I’m busy again.
Here’s hoping that the sun is shining in your neck of the woods but that it’s not dreadfully hot. Stay hydrated, cool and I will talk with you all again soon. Be well.
