It rhymed so I opted to use it. Ever since I learned that its possible for an HOA to foreclose on a property and evict the occupants/residence in my state it’s bothered me. I took a deeper dive into it yesterday and essentially if they do this they force the hand of your mortgage lender so they too wind up foreclosing on your and then you can say goodbye to your credit as well as trying to find a new place to live. I just checked the financials from the last newsletter I got and they have about $2,000 in the bank at the moment. Based on what I see they somehow have a surplus of money despite the fact that not everyone has been paying their dues. Not exactly sure how that happened.
I know that my late spouse managed to pull down all of the documentation on the HOA and he kept damn near everything he ever printed off. I went looking for that stuff last night but couldn’t find any of it. I found all of the old mortgage stuff and how the balance was really low until he refinanced in his credit card debt. This place could be all mine now either free and clear or damn close to it but him and his refinance created more debt for me. I’ve never been happy about it and am not happy about it now. Of course I never did find the HOA stuff I was looking for. I can’t get anything on-line and I really don’t want to ask anyone on the board for the documents.
Taking a step back with the new knowledge I have I think it’s probably in my best interest to give the HOA the money they are asking for and call it a day. I don’t want to. I will however make them work for it. It’s not as if I am mailing a check to them today although I probably should. I thought all they could do by law was put a lein on the house but that is the first step and then as the debt accumulates it gets worse to where they go into foreclosure. Yeah foreclosure takes time money and about 1 to 2 years depending on how fast the court system is moving. However, I don’t want to lose this place to them, that would be the ultimate slap in the face. I’ve worked damn hard since my spouses death to ensure that I could keep this place since that was the only real asset he had and it was mainly because of the cats ( I was left with 7 of them) but there are also memories I am hanging on to. The HOA has threated all sorts of things in the past but never followed through and I suspect that the same is still probably true today they will threaten me but they don’t have the money to spend to follow through with the action. Hey I could be wrong and wow then wouldn’t I be sorry. Past performance doesn’t necessarily dictate future behavior but it sure is a good gauge.
Chances are good that I won’t be pouring money to improve this place. I will however be spending money for upkeep like the lawn, trees, etc. As well as this pest control situation I am dealing with. I’m sure that I will find the HOA stuff when I am not looking for it and enter into clean up mode (whenever that happens). I am thinking of moving to something smaller but finding it will be difficult and I will for sure make sure there is no HOA or COA – I do not like them and neither me or my late spouse wanted to be in one. However, it was always a dream of his to live here and he got to fulfill that which made him incredibly happy. It’s just an average tract home that is in a nice community. There isn’t anything fancy about it and it’s just middle class living. Great if you are starting a family, have a family (kids or not). It’s far too much house for 1 person or with that 1 person being me. I do not need 2 bathrooms, 3 bedrooms and a finished basement. The more space you have the more it tends to fill up with junk. Since he liked to keep things and we always said we would get around to cleaning one of these days it never seemed to bother either of us. If I had thought for one second that he was going to pass away as early as he did I would have for sure got to cleaning a whole lot sooner.
His ultimate plan was leaving me the house with the hope and dream that I would sell it, pocket the cash and move. That would have been a little bit easier to do if I wasn’t left with 7 cats. Most places will take 1 or 2 pets but not much beyond that and having to pick and chose who came with me and who was going to be left behind would have been just as bad as losing him. Besides that how would I possibly be able to pick when I loved them all? It’s like having 7 kids and knowing you can only take 2 with you, an impossible choice and not something any human should be made to choose. Hindsight is always 20/20 and in looking back I am more than comfortable with the decision I made to stay, keep the cats and see this through to what will ultimately be the end. I will say that it is easier to stay put than it would be to move. However, if I manage to ever find something that seems or feels right I will likely give it a go. Right now I am looking but not seriously. I’d also likely shop around for the best offer on what one of those ‘as-is’ firms would give me and take the highest offer rather than trying to list the house and then waiting for someone to make me an offer. Sure I would get more but as I age my patients is wearing thinner and if this is ultimately something I go through with then cutting the cord, taking my money and moving on is what I will want to do.
Gator seems to be doing a bit better, I suppose like me she has good and bad days. I was up at 3a with her and I had a horrible headache. She nibbled on a can of food and then left my room. I picked up the food and hand fed it to her from the couch. She enjoyed that. She was by the fountain when I woke up for good and she got a drink and nibbled on the new can I put out and then used the litter box a couple times and then waited for me on the couch. I of course hand fed her breakfast and she ate pretty much the whole can. Last I checked she was napping in my room. Today is the perfect day for that as it’s rainy and overcast. Not a great day to be outside.
No heat or ac has been needed in the last 24 hours and my hope is that we can go like that for the rest of the week. I like it when nothing is running. You can listen and hear silence and if there are mice moving about it’s much easier to hear them. I haven’t caught anything additional but I heard one chewing or tapping in my room on Monday afternoon. The house smells a bit I think something died but it’s that gasoline like smell. It comes and goes, last about a week or slightly longer and then it’s just gone. Which leads me to believe it’s a mouse or mice that have died. I am due for another service call this month, not sure when that will happen then the next one won’t be until December. I can call anytime and they will come out in between service for no additional charge to touch up or add more chemicals, etc. whatever it is that I may need.
Work well it’s super stressful and only getting worse with time instead of better. It’s okay this week since boss man is out but that won’t last all week. He’s back on Friday I don’t expect to hear from him but you never know. Next week it will be back to the same old BS with endless and mindless meetings for no reason and babbling on about anything and everything which amounts to nothing at all.
I don’t know what a Psychotic Break feels like but with everything coming at me hot and heavy as well as the stress it makes me feel like I am trying to drink from a fire hose and it is just an impossible task. Yet I try to keep up and I do a pretty good job. It would be much easier if my life was BS free. It’s times like these that make me lean towards wanting to check out of life once Gator has done the same.
Catching a break, changing my circumstances and some how managing to put a positive spin on thing would certainly give me a reason to want to go on. However, I’ve been bogged down for too long in doom and gloom. Where the only news I get is bad news and thus depression sets in. Can I turn it all around on my own? Perhaps but it would certainly take a lot to make that happen. It took a lot to happen to get me where I am today and hey I never thought I would make it before. I suppose anything is possible but right now life isn’t exactly all rainbows and gold. From watching my little girl grow older and closer to death, to my aging body and how large I am as well as the pressure at work hey it all makes me want to go on vacation and just never come back. You can’t out run your problems no matter what they are or how hard you try, eventually you have to face them. That’s why I am not on vacation and I am trying to deal with things the best I can. I am not moving at a record pace but then again I don’t view this as a race. Looking at longevity in my family (on my mom’s side of the family, which is all I know about) the men tend to live longer than the women. That probably means I will be here for a lot longer than I want to be. That could be good or bad kind of depends on if life takes a turn for the better eventually.
Well a project for the day is ramping up and I am the starting point so I need to get going so I can work my magic and make my contribution. Then maybe I can catch some rest, kind of depends on what comes my way the rest of the day. Here’s hoping for nothing but good things not only for me, but for you too! Take care.
