Greetings everyone. Yes, I am still very much here and alive. I have been busy setting up my new computer. It was truly a weekend task that occupied most of my weekend but I am pleased to report that by Sunday evening I had everything setup and ready to go. I am working with a 31-inch monitor (advertised as a 32 inch but viewing is limited to 31 inches). It’s like I am working on a TV monitor and it is nice but it takes some getting used to. My second monitor is my original trusty wide screen 22 inch monitor. Monitors do take up a huge amount of real estate on the desk and I see why in business monitor arms free up that space. I made some adjustments and can accommodate both monitors just fine. Although, I have been looking at downsizing. It’s only been 2 days so I haven’t really given this larger monitor a fair shake yet and I did spend a lot of money on this package. If I would have seen it in person, I would have never purchased it due to the size of the monitor.
Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I think I got a decent value for my money, all things considered. It came with 8gb of ram and while that is nice, I prefer to max things out when it comes to ram so I ordered an upgrade kit and it will be here on Friday. I will then have 32gb of memory which is the max this machine can accommodate.
The one thing that everyone notices when you get a new computer is the speed and how fast it is. Over time this diminishes and with loading software and especially programs that auto launch at startup tend to slow things down. Just like a car when you drive it off the lot, the next model is faster and costs more. I like moderate speed. I use my computer partially as a business tool in working from home, writing letters, managing finances, and email. I also have my porn addiction and watch videos as well as stream content.
One thing I was surprised at is how quick this was to setup right out of the box. It needed a few MS updates but those downloaded and applied quickly. Having a faster processor and more cores makes all the difference in the world. Tasks that used to take an hour on my old machine take a fraction of time. Booting up is done in under a minute whereas on my old computer it took at least 5 to complete.
This is my birthday present for all intense and purposes. It’s something I needed but also something I wanted. I bought it because I figured that time was working against me with the old machine. I had a failing sound card and then a failing CPU fan, I got my moneys worth and more out of the old machine. I’ve always wanted a Dell but have stayed faithful to HP. They build a good product. I can’t say I am a huge fan of their printers but monitors, desktops and laptops they are great.
I am still a bit disorganized. I have hours left before I turn a year older and I am not looking forward to my birthday. I will say that I have lived much longer than I ever thought I would. However, being alone and now with COVID that just makes this birthday a bit worse. I found out today that there is no more in person dining in my area starting on my birthday. I had planned to get breakfast out on Friday figuring that I would have my blood drawn in the morning. Looks like it will be carry out only – that kind of sucks. However, not all is lost. The pizza place I like is far enough away from my home it’s several counties away and they are not governed by the same restrictions as my county is, so I can dine in and get pizza. I am thinking of making the trip tomorrow, if not then for sure before the weekend is over.
Today started Day 1 of my vacation. I have a morning task that I perform with a co-worker. It’s mission critical and while one of us could do it by ourselves we work together pretty well and knock it out quickly. I made my morning call to him. Then went back upstairs and watched TV and fell asleep. Marv woke me up because it was lunch time. Funny thing is that he is being extra picky about what he will eat. By supper time he was screaming at me and when I put the food down, he just went at it. That is until his sister rounded the corner and then he ran away from his food. She is a walking food vacuum. I just hope that Marv’s appetite kicks back in so he will stop the pickiness and just eat. I will say he did gobble up the lobster cat treats I got him. The boy knows good food. I see some mannerisms he is exhibiting that his mother went through just before she checked out and that has caused concern. Which is why I spent the day upstairs with them instead of down here being lost in cyberspace. Plus, I love sleeping – it’s the only time where I am truly 100% comfortable. Problem is you can’t accomplish anything if your sleeping. It’s just part of my depression and let’s say it’s flaring right now since I am alone and missing my late husband. You’d think that enough time had passed I would be used to it and over it, but birthdays, anniversaries and holidays bring back a flood of memories and that causes me to sink like a rock. I’ll be okay, I just have to go through it.
Well I need to get up early in the morning for my call and for sure I will be back in bed afterwards. I honestly would much prefer to isolate from the world at large for my birthday but that won’t help anything. Perhaps hearing my co-workers voice will help me.
Just wanted to check in and let you all know that I am still here. I will talk with you all again soon. Be well and stay safe!
